Saw this wonderful Mira Nair film last week. The casting, the direction and editing is just too good.A thread of continuity runs thought all the scenes which are essentially a series of disconnected incidents from the lives of Ashok(Irfan Khan) and his family .I particularly liked a scene where Ashok and his kid son reach the fag end of rocks on a sea shore and the father tells his son ."I hope you will remember this day for a long time, today we went as far as we could go, until we could go no further".At places i found the movie lacking in emotional intensity but the subtleness makes it more applealing and realistic, anyways for thoes who want a emotional thriller they can always watch a Shanrukh Khan starrer. The movie has tempted me to pick up Jhumpa Lahiri's Namesake.

Delhi - A book review

925040787s
Picked up this book my first of Kushwant Singh and found it unputdownable. The author draws parallels between the love of his life, a prostiture called Bhagmati and the city of Delhi. He takes the reader through an incredible fairy tale journey spanning over centuries and attempts to describe Delhi through the eyes of kings and laborers of the era bygone. The countless libidinous anecdotes of kings and their begums and his own encounters with foreign women travelling to Delhi is cheeky but humorous. All in all a book written by a brilliant man and a lover of Delhi.
I have never really stayed in Delhi but this book has given me a feel of the city and a new found respect for it.
